Installing RealeWriter for Mac OS X:

After downloading the .dmg file, a disk should mount on your desktop. Run the installer by double-clicking the “Install RealeWriter” icon. The installer will install RealeWriter inside your Applications folder. It will leave previously installed versions of RealeWriter in place. These may be useful if you have a support issue and we need you to try opening your RealeBook in one of these previous versions.

Installing RealeWriter for Windows:

Your web browser should prompt you for permission to run the .exe file after downloading is complete. Granting permission to run will launch the install. The installer will install RealeWriter inside your Program Files folder. It will leave previously installed versions of RealeWriter in place. These may be useful if you have a support issue and we need you to try opening your RealeBook in one of these previous versions.

You must use the installer to install RealeWriter so that your computer associates RealeBook (“.reb”) files and RealeWriter URLs with the RealeWriter application in your computer’s Registry.

Activating RealeWriter Pro:

If you have purchased a RealeWriter Pro Single User License or a RealeWriter Pro School Site License, you should have received an activation code by email and/or as part of the Media Kit package. It might also be found on a printed invoice accompanying the Media Kit package. It looks something like:

To activate RealeWriter Pro, start RealeWriter. Click the “Activate...” button in the Welcome Window. Follow the instructions in the activation window. Upon successful activation, your Welcome Window will display “RealeWriter Pro” at the top left of the window, beneath the RealeWriter icon.

School License users will typically activate a master computer, then mirror it to other computers on the network.

v3 Customers Note: Your RealeWriter Pro v3 activation code will not work with RealeWriter 4. We will have an upgrade solution for customers who purchased in 2009 or 2010 soon.

Fast loading was removed as a preference. It is always on now. This feature was introduced in RealeWriter 2 circa 2004, when space tended to be much tighter on customer machines. [IMPROVEMENT]
"Autoplay Sounds" removed from Describe panel. The Reader window will now play sounds if they are available for a page pair. The Reader will not auto-speak the text. The user must click the "Speak" button to make it speak. This will solve conflicts between speech and text without authors having to figure it out. [IMPROVEMENT]
Considerably lowered memory footprint of RealeWriter on Windows. [IMPROVEMENT]
Removed "Mask" feature from Create panel. It was confusing and will likely reemerge in the future in the Collage Maker. [IMPROVEMENT]
